Because they weren't pandering to a particular audience, and they weren't as censored? Because we actually cared on some level about the media back then? And now, even though adverts have been designed on every level, to appeal to our wants and needs, or to just straight up frustrate us with a catchy melody or catchphrase that gets repeated over and over until it's all we can hear, we still have some kind of resistance to modern propaganda, because we learnt the hard way that the big guys have poured every penny into psychologically breaking us down, so they can tell us what we want before we even know it, and because we have zero attachment to it or the content it is shown in, because its all trash.

I am 16, it is 3 am and my parents are sleeping. I don't have to worry about work or school and just don't want to sleep. I just watch commercials as the light from the tv illuminates the room, in this moment... this very moment as I allow life to pass through I feel alive.
Commercials were so much fun back then! They're like whole little movies in themselves with a story and characters. I also like how they were done with all-real people and props instead of just digital effects. The vintage CGI is great fun too of course.

This reminds me of that, except it's also a historic look back at 1980s Japan.

It’s amazing to see the source of this music be kept alive. Born in 85, I grew up listening to smooth jazz. While everyone was listening to what was popular at the time(the 90s), I was confined with this type of music. Never would I have imagined it will be a source of influence in the future. Thank you for the amazing playlist. It brings back actual memories for me when I grew up. Listening to the remix versions of what I thought never would be this popular just makes me smile.

Vaporwave is so incredibly magical because it awakens 80s and 90s nostalgia even in those who never lived in that era (like me). This is why I love this aesthetic, since this is probably the closest current equivalent to a time machine.

There is a HUGE disparity between what is Voluntary coercion (small cap companies trying to sell you their product/service) and the Mandatory government-sanctioned, tax money-funded PROPAGANDA by LAW that you are sooner or later extradited, ostracized or otherwise penalised for not adhering to. One classic example is military drafting. If you do not "buy" it, you could be sent into prison. Another, more recent, example is of course semi-obligatory vaccinations. In my country, for instance, the government will implement "vaccination passports" in a country where the public service sector of media outlets already collects billions in annual tax money revenue. When States impose their propaganda upon you, the consequences of "freely deciding" is therefore Waaaaay more stringent and costly than if you, say, where to not sign a Disney+ membership. Governments are called Violence Monopoloes for a reason. You don't believe even that? Get a grip on reality, ffs!
